Ive been working on a project within a regionally significant service truck/ up-fit facility. They receive chassis trucks and add whatever the client wants. If the pieces parts are not available or are not even in existence, they custom fabricate them. Millions of dollars of equipment below me as Im working 36 in the air on a scissor lift in a 70-year old concrete and steel structure. All protocols have been exceeded and them some.
Ive also been shipped into the Mayo Clinic to oversee similar work above their surgical centers, critical care units, and areas I cant discuss. Im in my later 50s, fully gray/white beard and all and have been doing this likely, too long. In the past 4X days, Ive been chewed out/ reprimanded no less than 4-times, by different people with different ranks, levels of authority, etc.
Keep in mind, this is what I do for a living and manage a department which does the same. Im called to the field when things are difficult/dangerous. I fully accept the responsibilities as that is what I do and is part of my job.
Why, when people who you know dont understand what it is you are doing, couldnt begin to execute the protocols, and have been watching for the past 4X days, seeing the results and the non-existent fires, feel they need to ridicule on the methods and procedures used?
Lots of overhead welding, cutting, and grinding.
Keep in mind, Im there to ensure there are NO issues. Is it an opportunity for them to feel superior? Are they having a bad day and want to project their frustration on another, or are they just that ignorant?
Looking to see if anyone else has to experience this on a regular basis OR am I just getting tired of the game.
All thoughts and opinions are welcome.
