In Pauls Biography of my Dads life he made some very odd choices on how to present his material.
I would like to ask him.... why did you do that Paul?.... why did you focus on the character of "Morgan"? You were supposed to be writing about my Dads life... Not Morgans!not mine!how did that change happen? And why?
In your Prologue... which you entitled ""Every Cabbie in Catalina" you recounted my Dads decision to pack up what undoubtably was extremely sensitive information... and then take a plane to what I was told was San Antonio.
He was gone for two weeks at a period in his life when he was extremely fragile. Dying actually.
He never told me who he had taken that material to or why it was so important for him to make the trip. I raged at him.....upset and insulted that he would not take me along on this trip to care for him...... You captured those feelings in your Prologue. But the very end of it you wrote.
"With that Linda let her Father go. But she would spend the rest of her life wondering what was in those papers. that was so important... and so confidential... that he had to hand deliver them. And she would wonder who they would be delivered to.
Nearly two decades would pass before she would begin to get so much as a clue.
Later that morning after the helicopter landed in Long Beach. Dr. Brown was met by the car that would ferry him to the private charter flight that would take him to San Antonio. As the car approached he peered through the windshield pleased to see the familiar face of Morgan the protege he had recruited twenty years earlier, who would serve as his escort for the trip to his final destination."
Of course at the time.... I did not know that Dad was meeting the same man who had been my first love.... the same man who had visited the island a couple of years before. At the time Dad was dying... I had no idea that there was a connection between he and my Father. But I have been shown recently that there indeed was a strong and ongoing association..... and it was called The Xerxes Project.
Oddly.... after that Prologue....You launched immediately into your first Chapter.... entitled " The Boy with the Chestnut Hair" ( which was entirely about the young man that I met in high school, fell in love with... the same . young man that you decided to call.... Morgan.)
Months later you actually wrote a message Morgan..... telling him that you would be interested in writing his own story.... once you had properly finished the story of T. Townsend Brown. Do you remember what his response to you was then?
I do.
He simply said "You already are"
That was a complete mystery to me at the time but now I see what he actually meant.
