Exactly right! The current does not alternate and only flows in one direction as the spark jumps to the doorknob to balance the charges. We knew you'd get it. Give that gal a Kewpie doll!

The ancients studied electricity by rubbing a ball of sulfur or glass. These were friction based generators working on charge imbalance just like you rubbing your feet across the carpet. This later lead to development of Wimshurst or influence machines. They had Leyden jars (a type of capacitor) on each side to store a charge. These influence machines operate by electrostatic induction and convert mechanical work into electrostatic energy by the aid of a small initial charge which is continually being replenished and reinforced.



Now per Wikipedia:

Static electricity and electric current are two separate phenomena, both involving electric charge, and may occur simultaneously in the same object. Static electricity is a reference to the electric charge of an object and the related electrostatic discharge when two objects are brought together that are not at equilibrium. An electrostatic discharge creates a change in the charge of each of the two objects. In contrast, electric current is the flow of electric charge through an object, which produces no net loss or gain of electric charge. Although charge flows between two objects during an electrostatic discharge, time is too short for current to be maintained.

Now these electrostatic generators deliver constant current while the voltage varies. Modern induction generators used in power plants produce constant voltage while the current varies.

I cannot disagree with the "lessons" themselves but I would like to point out the fact that being this is the T. Townsend Brown forum, and because we are all learning this anew, I feel we must start out with the 3 basic forces that TTB describes as being the sides of a triangle, namely "Electricity", "Gravity" and "Magnetism" or simply E-M-G!

Now I know for some this will be a daunting task, because we all have our own basic understanding of electromagnetism to draw from, but this class was to teach Karen, and to KISS it! So now how can we keep it simple and yet start off without the preconceived picture of what EM is? See, we are starting from the point of EMG, not EM+G as is the current paradigm.

Mr. Peetee and Mr. Magic, I do get where you are coming from, and you are correct in that, however this is not Physics 101 as is taught in schools, this is a new approach to physics, where we assume nothing of the "great ones that came before" but we will use our own experimentation and analysis to determine if and where the classic sciences fit. Now I am NOT talking about building a flame-jet generator or a "gravitator" in your garage, I am talking about a coil of wire, a bar magnet, maybe a few metal disks or spheres, but keeping it all very inexpensive and table-top in size. Maybe some iron filings as well to test the theory of magnetic fields and vortex action.

Those that can record video may want to record their experiment(s) to share, and the data can be analyzed by others just as peer review in the mainstream.

I clicked on a link to indicate there was a new post to this thread and it took me all the way back to the first post. I read one of the links you posted and the ancients were first studying light, then lodestones. And then I thought this interesting:

Another Thomas Browne (notice the spelling). And that was the first mention of electricity in the history link that you posted on Page 1 of this thread. Now I know the genie wants to teacjh us EMG, but I am going back to the first mention of electricity by Thomas Browne or is it Thomas Brown in a FTM?

As I'm sitting here watching Taps, (got a touch of a cold, yes I know my immune system..!!! just ignore the grumbling about colds seems I always have one ) umm Yes, that's weird.

Time to start at the beginning again...lets see... Does anyone know what Electromagnetism ment to T.T.B. , or anything he said about any of the 3 . Mayby that will inspire me..

I like the ideal of keeping the experiments cheap, because I don't have a lot to spend..but a garage full of stuff and a desire to learn...

Any Ideals great, if not I'm going to rest and think some... Great job guys..all of you ..every last person who took time to post here..weather we always agree isn't the point, I personily (sp) thank you all.. If any new people would like to jump in with a statement please do..if it doesn't fit anywhere, put it up under the Q. catagory that's why I put it there.
