Ebola. should I worry?...

No sides to this table. A place where anything goes. Just be polite and leave the hard core vulgarities alone, anyway, the forum won't let you post them.

That's a different perspective. Thank you.

Next Monday, they’ll say the same about Nigeria.

Below, map of Africa with both these countries in Green.
In Red, those still under the yoke.

Not for long I’d suspect, given Fear now firmly entrenched where it matters.

Oh, and should I mention this ?

Yes, I should .... even if it is in the article linked to above.

Senegal had just 1 (One !) case of Ebola. In August 2014.

But just enough, back in August, to fuel the flames.

The extraordinarily eficient Senegalese hospitals (surely a world reference, given what is miserably happening in the US ones ) were not only able to cure him, but also to avoid having him infect a single nurse.

Now, on the other hand, Nigeria had .... 20 cases (yikes !).
Last one was detected - strange and coincidentaly or not, you decide - in, yes, August 2014.

The even more efficient Nigerian hospital care - now surely a world benchmark - completely controled those 20 patients, avoided them infecting third parties and so completely erradicated the Beast, that next Monday, 20 October, will be WHOed hailed free of its menace.

Not to sound political but in the words of Rahm Emanuel....Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Mid-term elections are coming up.

Ahhhh....vaccines.

Perhaps I should expand what I said...in the words of Rahn Emanuel AND PFIZER (insert any big Pharma name here), .....never let a good crisis go to waste.

HA !
Close .....

But I'm a lot more cynical when it comes to Big Money.

So, I'd say "never let good business go to waste, invent a crisis"

Ocotber 18, Canada said it would start shipping 800 vials of an experimental Ebola vaccine to the World Health Organization on Monday to combat the deadly viral outbreak in Africa.

“Canada views this experimental Ebola vaccine as a global resource and in the interest of global public health, we are sharing it with our international partners” said Canadian Health Minister Rona Ambrose.

The government has licensed NewLink Genetics Corp. , of the U.S., through its wholly owned subsidiary BioProtection Systems Corp. to further develop the vaccine for use in humans. The government owns the intellectual property rights associated with the vaccine.

I have found in my professional life that in any serious discussion over “motives”, whatever the “crime” being investigated – such as, for simple instance, defaulting on a written compromise - there are 3 Rules of Thumb regarding efforts spent towards the Truth that should be aggressively pursued and that can be summarized as follows : (1) Who benefits (2) Whose money is involved, and (3) Which interest was “pushed” or “deep-sixed”.

I haven’t the presumption to have done nothing of the sort regarding Ebola (as if that needed be said, with me and my “credentials” on this stuff) but old habits die hard and a little digging was compulsory.

Far as I know, 4 “western” people got Ebola and have been “cured” with drugs administered in different “western” hospitals – names of Kent Brantly, Nancy Writebol, Rick Sacra and Teresa Romero (this last one, the Spanish nurse, is just waiting for a second analysis coming negative like the first one to be officially declared “cured”). The call on journalist Ashoka Mukpo is yet to be made.

Thing is,
Which “drug” were they “treated” with ?

Far as I know,
1 - Kent Brantly : ZMapp / Nancy Writebol : ZMapp / Rick Sacra : TKM-Ebola / Teresa Romero : Favipiravir.
2 – The Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan (who died) was treated with Brincidofovir …. given to him 6 days (?) after being hospitalized. This is the drug that is now being administered to Ashoka Mukpo.
3 – All the survivors were also – also – treated with plasma transfusions with either antibodies taken from monkeys and “humanized” through genetic engineering, or later, as in the US, with antibodies taken from Kent Brantly’s “stained” but victorious blood. Mukpo has also … been given serum from Brantly blood.
4 - Zmapp and Brincidofovir are “American” drugs. TKM-Ebola is “Canadian”. And Favipiravir is a “Japanese” drug.
5 -The FDA, far as I know, has allowed two drugs, ZMapp and "TKM-Ebola", to be used on “Americans” infected with Ebola.
6 – A man, the Spanish priest Miguel Pajares was treated with ZMapp, and died.
7 – The nurse who treated this priest, precisely Teresa Romero, was infected by him …. but was then (?) treated with the already mentioned Favipiravir.
8 - The Japanese have stockpiled their drug, and offered it to the WHO. Far as I know, it was not “accepted”.
9 –The Russians, in August and through that Machiavellian man Putin, also offered WHO “their” drug (don’t know the name) but, far as I know, it was not accepted.
10 – The Canadians have now offered their drug to the WHO and, far as I know, it was accepted.
11 – ZMapp is nothing more than “three humanized monoclonal antibodies, that has not been subjected to a randomized clinical trial to prove its safety or its efficacy”.
12 – Now, on one hand, the Americans say all ZMapp has been “used up” …. And, on the other, one of their companies has meanwhile, apparently, got the monopoly to “to further develop the vaccine for use in humans” of the Canadian drug. Which, by the way, was being developed by the Canadians under a US Department of Defense contract for a meager $140 million, when, very auspiciously to them, Ebola got loose and all hell too. Their stock price since then tells a funny story.

Interesting stuff.
To me.

So, I’m calling TKM the winner.
We’ll see.
