Hermit Crabs

Disclaimer: this thread may be percocet influenced.

My grandkids all got hermit crabs last month. We've had a learning curve that has included one funeral and two up coming funerals. Yesterday I was dispatched to acquire two new hermits due to the impending demise of Pearl and Midnight Fiesta. Flambo succumbed last week to injuries inflicted be Spongie, and had already been succeeded by Blaze. Having learned from Blaze, that larger more social crabs seem to adapt better, I spent quite a while choosing the new crabitat mates. I ended up with three, plus two spare shells. King Neptune traded his blue long spiral shell for the black round spiral shell sometime last night. Valentine was checking out the spare shells this afternoon. She's interested in Flambo's former shell, but crabs are not candidates for bariatric surgery. She checked out the other vacant shells, but nothing seemed to suit her. What exactly prompts a hermit crab to choose one she'll over another? Is it something about the spiral? As I said, this may all be percocet induced. I have surgery scheduled for the 29th to repair my right rotator cuff. Meanwhile, the pain keeps me awake if I don't take my percocet. I'm waiting for it to kick in. 4:45 a.m. comes early, and I have a busy day tomorrow.

Cat,
Hope You have pain under control.
There are not many people who admit to having crabs.

Perhaps the hermits are not unique in seeking larger shells to occupy....as they grow?

Seems you're in for a lot of fun, Cat.
Hope they don't mix the Infraspinatus with the Subscapularis !

Sould quit whatever it is (ahem) you're stressing your right arm with.

But hey .... !

It was a case of several injuries over the years that culminated in snap, crackle, pop, rip, tear. I reached to the backseat of the car for my purse. Hurts like crazy, and I can only take the percocet at night. Only ten days till surgery. Then I'm off with my daughter and grandkids to Albuquerque four days later. Good distraction while I'm recovering.

Kevin, your sense of humor is a match to mine!

Lately they've all had themselves buried in their mulch. I think the cold spell we had made them want to hide. I know it made me want to hide. Especially the afternoon when the temperature dropped 22 degrees in six minutes. It was chilly when I got to my therapy appointment. It was snowing when I got out of there. Supposed to get cold today too. I think I'll pretend to be a hermit crab and bury myself somewhere warm.
